Our Founder
Honoring Jody J.D. Little's Legacy
Jody “J.D.” Little, the founder of Outlaw Tattoos and Piercing, was a man who lived life on his own terms, with grit, passion, and unapologetic honesty. Born in Cherokee, Iowa, and shaped by years in foster care and Boys Town, J.D. carved his own path through the world, eventually landing in Sioux Falls where he opened Outlaw Tattoos and Piercing in 2003. A biker at heart, he embraced the open road, finding freedom and joy in motorcycle rides alongside his wife, Amy, who was with him on his final ride under a full moon. Though his life wasn’t without trouble, J.D. faced his past with candor and spent his days trying to be better than the day before. He believed in second chances, hard work, and community, leading local clean-up efforts and offering a fiercely loyal hand to those around him. His story is one of resilience, rebellion, and deep love, and his legacy rides on in the lives he touched and the roads he traveled. His wife, Amy, now honors his life and memory as she carries on his passion through Outlaw Tattoos and Piercing.

The best way to book an appointment is to stop in, but no appointments are needed! We take walk-ins from noon to 8 pm, 7 days a week, and you can book an appointment if you’d like to come in on a certain date. Or, feel free to call our shop but we may need to see you to determine how long your appointment will take.
What payment methods do you accept?
At this time, we are a cash-only shop. For your convenience, there is an ATM located inside.
Are there age requirements?
Yes. You must be 18 or over, or you will need parental consent. Everyone must bring a valid ID. If you are under age, you and a parent must each bring a valid ID and you must have matching names and addresses. If you have different last names, you will need a birth certificate showing your parent’s name, or they will need a marriage license or other document to show when their name changes. Stop by the shop for more details.
How do I choose the design and artist for my tattoo?
Stop in the shop to meet the artists and to browse the flash on the walls. You can also bring in a design, or tell the artist your idea, and they will create something for you.
What is typical healing time for a tattoo?
Healing time depends on the location and design of the tattoo, but it may heal in as fast as two weeks with proper after care.
What is typical healing time for a piercing?
Your piercing may take two to twelve weeks to heal (and sometimes longer) depending on the type of piercing. Your piercing pro will give you a more accurate timeline when you go in for your piercing.
What is the typical timeline of a tattoo removal?
The timeline for renewal depends on the tattoo and if you’re doing a full removal or a cover up. It may be four to ten sessions, or less for coverups.
Can you touch up or cover an existing tattoo?
Yes, we do tons of coverups! Stop in the shop to talk to an artist and look at your options.
Do you change jewelry for an existing piercing?

What do I need to bring?
Just an ID and an idea!
How do you sterilize equipment to ensure safety?
We sterilize our equipment with our two autoclaves. Plus all tattoo tools come pre-sterilized and are disposed of after each customer. We are inspected by the health department and meet all safety codes.
Can I consult with an artist before my appointment?
Yes, we encourage consultations to discuss your ideas and ensure you get the perfect design. Stop in, or call to set up a time, to meet with one of our talented artists.
What is the aftercare regimen for tattoo?
You will receive an aftercare card when you come in for your tattoo, but aftercare entails keeping the area clean, using an ointment or medicated lotion, keeping your tattoo out of the sun, and other tips your artist will share with you so you heal well.
What is the aftercare regimen for piercings?
You will receive an aftercare card when you come in for your piercing, but aftercare entails keeping the area clean with a mild liquid soap and a saline solution, as well as certain things to avoid, especially with an oral piercing. Please see your piercing professional for details.
How should I care for my skin between removal sessions?
Keep the site clean and dry. Your removal pro will give you more tips at your appointment.
Does tattoo removal leave a scar?
Scarring may be minimal! It depends a lot on your aftercare and the number of treatments needed. The updated technology we use is more advanced, so you are less likely to scar than with previous models. Please see our pros prior to your tattoo removal to ask more.
Can you help with issues like irritation or migration?
Yes, we are happy to help even if you were pierced in another shop. Please stop in and visit with our professionals.
